Rhinoplasty

Ultrasonic rhinoplasty.

Sculpting the bone of the nose with unprecedented precision, without fracturing it — for a gentler recovery.

What is ultrasonic rhinoplasty?

Ultrasonic rhinoplasty is a modern technique of nose surgery that uses an ultrasonic instrument — the piezotome — to reshape the nasal bone with unprecedented precision. The ultrasonic vibrations act only on the bony tissue, without harming the skin, the blood vessels or the surrounding cartilage. The surgeon can thus sculpt the bridge of the nose, reduce a hump or refine the nasal bones millimetre by millimetre, under visual control, rather than fracturing the bone "blindly".

Ultrasound vs conventional instruments: the difference

Traditional rhinoplasty uses chisels (osteotomes) and a rasp to rework the bone, which can cause sometimes unpredictable fractures and trauma to the neighbouring tissues. The piezotome, on the other hand, cuts and smooths the bone selectively and in a controlled way. This precision translates into:

  • cleaner, more symmetrical dorsal lines;
  • fewer bruises around the eyes;
  • reduced swelling (oedema);
  • a reproducible gesture, adapted to each shape of nose.

It is particularly useful for correcting a hump, straightening a deviated nose or refining a wide bridge, while respecting the structure of the nose.

A rhinoplasty without nasal packing

One of the most common fears before a rhinoplasty concerns the "packing" placed in the nostrils. Because the ultrasonic gesture is precise and causes little bleeding, mastering it most often makes it possible to avoid any packing. You breathe through your nose within the first hours and the recovery is noticeably more comfortable. Small external splints may be worn for a few days, but the inside of the nose stays free.

Who is it for? The indications

Ultrasonic rhinoplasty suits most people wishing to change the shape of their nose, especially when there is a bony component: a bony-cartilaginous hump, a wide bridge, a deviated nose or an asymmetry of the nasal bones. It can be performed as a first procedure or in a revision (secondary rhinoplasty), and is just as suitable for female rhinoplasty as for male rhinoplasty.

Ultrasound and preservation: the natural pairing

Ultrasound is one tool, chosen when it is the most relevant — and very often combined with preservation rhinoplasty, which conserves the natural architecture of the nose rather than rebuilding it. This pairing aims for a result that is both precise and natural, true to your face.

Recovery and result

Thanks to the reduced trauma, recovery is generally gentler: bruising and swelling fade faster. A splint is worn for about a week, then the nose gradually deflates. Post-operative taping can support healing, and the result refines over the months until it reaches its final shape.

Why choose Dr Lange in Montpellier?

A surgeon dedicated exclusively to rhinoplasty in Montpellier, Dr Frédéric Lange masters ultrasonic rhinoplasty and preservation techniques in order to offer each patient the approach best suited to their nose and their expectations. Every project begins with a detailed consultation and a realistic simulation.

Frequently asked questions

Ultrasonic rhinoplasty: your questions.

Is ultrasonic rhinoplasty done without nasal packing?

Most often, yes. As the ultrasonic gesture is precise and causes little bleeding, mastering it usually makes it possible to avoid any packing: you breathe through your nose within the first hours.

Does ultrasonic rhinoplasty cause fewer bruises and less swelling?

As a rule, yes. By sculpting the bone without fracturing it, it causes fewer bruises and reduced swelling compared with the conventional technique, for a more comfortable recovery.

Is ultrasonic rhinoplasty suitable for every nose?

It is mainly indicated when there is a bony component: a hump, a wide bridge, a deviated nose or an asymmetry of the nasal bones. The indication is established during the consultation.

Should I choose ultrasonic or conventional rhinoplasty?

Ultrasound brings more precision on the bone and less tissue trauma. The choice of technique depends on your nose and your expectations; it is discussed together during the consultation.

Can it be combined with preservation rhinoplasty?

Yes. The two are very often combined: ultrasound for bony precision, preservation to conserve the natural architecture of the nose, in the service of a natural result.
