These noses often share certain features: thicker skin, a wider base and nostrils, a less projected tip and softer cartilage. Each origin — and above all each face — nonetheless remains unique, which is why the analysis is always individual rather than based on a "type".
Reinforcing rather than only removing
Where a "thin-skinned" nose is often refined by reduction, an ethnic nose frequently needs to be structured and supported. Projecting the tip, refining a wide bridge or narrowing the base regularly calls for cartilage grafts (from the septum, and if needed the ear) to build solid, lasting support under a thicker skin. When the base of the nose is wide, a reduction of the wings of the nose (alarplasty) can be combined, with a scar hidden in the natural fold.
Thick skin: patience and taping
Thicker skin drapes over the changes and deflates more slowly: the definition of the nose appears gradually, and the result can keep refining for 24 to 36 months. Post-operative taping and skin care support this evolution and help the skin re-drape over the new structures. This slower timeline is explained clearly from the outset.
